Here's the final version of The Good Specialist poster design. It's a fake poster, for a fake film, that maybe some day will be made with probably a different cast.
It's my ode to Blaxploitation movies. From the original version's description:
Went from titles such as "BAD MOTHERF***ER" and "THE BADASS" and "MR BLACK" and "THE BLACK SPECIALIST" (a fitting blaxploitation title) to now, THE GOOD SPECIALIST....I mean, yeah, it's a cheesy title, but I wanted to catch a lower-tier genre title. Something you'd expect a couple of investors to make in 1974 starring no-name black theatre performers and a couple of local football or basketball stars, with the landlord of the investors' apartment complex as the villian.
Also, if you find the text to be "lame", you didn't get the point.
Now for more new things to mention about this version.
GIGANTIC thanks to for allowing the stock use, getting the idea, and suggesting some ideas to make it better! Hopefully it's to your liking, sir.
Also big thanks to for helping me to figure out what was missing when I didn't have the guy in the green suit in there. You're useful for something after all, mate, don't forget that.
And finally, thanks to all the amazing stock artists on DA who've helped supply such great stock art as to allow schlubs like me to do pieces like this!
Quick note first - yes, the credits use some people's nicknames on it. If you DO NOT like your nick being used on the piece (it was just meant in good fun and crediting the artists within the actual work), please note me privately and I'll get rid of it ASAP! Thanks!
STOCK USAGES FROM:
- the flames
- the lead dude with the cigar (the inspiration in the first place! )
Ah, thank you so much! I've been fiddling more with compositions like this and to hear someone who I'm sure sees a lot of it say it turned out good is quite a compliment.
Aw, don't worry. I wouldn't want this to be like Lady Cocoa, which is so bad you can't even make fun of it. Black Shampoo, sure. Cuz at least that had babes (mostly white) jumping all over the black lead and a scene with pool cue impalement. Though definitely don't expect any Oscar-worthy performances (unless it has Pam Grier as Joe Specialist's old lady/mentor figure).
Thanks, dude. Glad to hear you liked it. I find it's a concept that not enough people do with a sense of fun creativity. It always seems more "wow, whoa, cool, design!" I mean where's the cheese? (then again, I probably need to browse DA more)
We want to know what love means to you!
Get your creative juices flowing and design a movie poster for "Paper Heart" that focuses on the theme "What Does Love Mean to Me?".
